Who Was Courtney Cash? Johnny Cash’s Great-Niece Murdered In Tenn.

The body of Courtney Cash was discovered stuffed inside a wooden box inside her home on Wednesday morning, reports WSMV. She had been stabbed to death, according to officials. Courtney Cash is the granddaughter of Tommy Cash, Johnny Cashs brother.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff David Andrews, the man who lived with Cash, William Austin Johnson, was taken to a local hospital with stab wounds. Johnson is the father of Cashs 20-month-old daughter. He was able to removed the baby from the house and drive to the hospital. He remains in stable condition.

Wayne Gary Masciarella, 27, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the incident. The information that Johnson provided at the hospital helped lead authorities to the suspect.

A 911 call was placed around 10:40 am Wednesday to White County dispatchers, said the sheriff. But the ping location the cell phone provided led officers close to a quarter of a mile down the road toward the wrong address. A second 911 call was placed as deputies prepared to leave the first location. That call then led them to the home, where Cashs body was discovered.
